An incredible 30 East Midlands Masters Records fell on Sunday, as over 200 swimmers took to the water at the Swim England East Midlands Open Masters and Senior Age Group Championships.

60 year old Colin Robbins from Nottingham Leander got the ball rolling in the 400 Freestyle, the first event of the day, breaking the 60-64 record by more than seven seconds. From that point on they just kept falling!

Lydia Lock from Leicester Penguins topped the record books, smashing a phenomenal four regional records in one day.

We also saw two very special records from outside the region. Firstly, Kath Tunnicliffe from Black Country and Potteries Masters broke the British Record in the 70-74 50m Backstroke, a record that had stood for over 15 years. We saved the best till last though, with an outstanding final heat of the day in the 1500m Freestyle from Colin Ovington of Derwentside and Gateshead – breaking the British Record by over 11 seconds, and becoming the first 55-59 year old in European history to go under 18 minutes for the event.
